KUWAIT: Ministry of Public Works' Assistant Undersecretary for construction projects Engineer Hossam Al-Tahous said yesterday that the Ministry of Health has adopted a structural plan for Al-Sabah health area, south Jamal Abdul Nasser road, illustrating the ministry's vision to the year 2050.
Al-Tahous said that the ministry presented the area's structural plan the beginning of July during a meeting which included the Minister of Health, Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer and Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Dr. Fadhel Saffar.
He clarified, the meeting discussed the preliminary results of the structural plan study, whereas; the Ministry of Health expressed its approval to continue in the preparation of a full study and implementation of a maternity hospital located in front of the current maternity hospital.
He added that the new Maternity Hospital is designed to contain 600 beds, noting that all hospitals - Jahra, Adan, Amiri will be sequentially constructed to be complete by 2016, to accommodate the present and future increase.
Al-Tahous said that the Ministry of Public Works has prepared a study on Adan area, to limit the number of people benefiting from health services through the General Authority for Civil Information, and rate the annual population growth.
He estimates that the population of Kuwait in 2030 requires the establishment of a new hospital in Adan area.
He explained, that the structural plans for hospitals Adan, Amiri and Jahra, are in progress, at their current locations were also approved, awaiting the structural plan for the Natural Medicine and Rehabilitation Hospital.
He said the construction plan for Al-Sabah area includes power stations and the dates of their establishment, taking into account the electrical loads in addition to maps of roads and drainage work and all the infrastructure services.
Al-Tahous estimated the cost of each hospital to 150 million dinars for 600-bed capacity, noting that Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital costs KD 300 million, a capacity of 1100 beds, adding that the total amount of the new eight hospitals is KD 1.2 billion.
