Akdeniz University Pediatric Stem Cell & Bone Marrow Tx Department (AUPSCBMTD) was established in 1998.. We have 9 rooms in EBMT standarts.. •Our team consists of 2 full professors ; 1 assistant professors ; 2 fellows ; 1 General practitioner and 2 bıologs...

•Total 300 Hematopoetic Stem Cell Transplantation

•We perform 70-80 transplantations in a year.

•AUPSCBM is only pediatric center in Turkey which performs non-relative transplantation since 2005. 

•Almost 300 Bone Marrow transplant were performed ; 250 Allogenic ; 50 Otolog.. 

•39 stem cell transplantation were performed by bringing stem cells from bone marrow and umblical cord banks from other countries..
•Majority of cases include beta thalassemia with 189 cases ; other cases are leucemia; fanconi anemia; aplastic anemia; bone marrow insufficiency and immune deficiency..  

•Overall survival is %92 ; Thalassemia Free Survival is %84 in these cases.

•Our unit has European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) allogeneic center accreditiation..

•In AUFM youngest patient whom Bone Marrow transplant was performed is 9 Months old ; Oldest is 21 years old..For Bone Marrow Transplant procedures : We need a healthy donor. ; best preferrable donors are siblings ; others are parents.. This procedure has no adverse effect for donors.. for BMT; patient is prepared in max 3 days but for the patients older than 3 yrs old we perform liver biopsy to determine iron storage in body so it prolongs the procedure to 7-10 days.
Post-transplant period is 25-40 days in the hospital..
Routin Controls are performed :
- 2 in a week in first 2 months ;
- once in a week in next 4 months ;
- After 4 months once in 2 weeks ;
- Then once in a year..
In AUFM Total 890 postnatal and 269 prenatal thalassemia and patients with hemoglobinopathia Molecullar studies were performed and contınuously being published in SCI ..
